guamayu is a Berlin-based brand and a queer family run business created by the couple Elliot (he/him) and Ruben (he/him) Silva in 2021. It's their mission to elevate global awareness and joyfulness through making it easy and fun to empower each other. The brand wants to make a positive impact on Guatemala, where Elliot has his roots. They produce all their products fairly in Guatemala, and donate 10% of every purchase to an NGO that helps empower women in Guatemala.

Fair trade: guamayu produces in two factories. The T-shirts are made at NG Textiles and the socks at Zigatex. Elliot and Ruben have visited the factories and can ensure fair and comfortable working conditions. They have found the factories through the parents of Elliot, who have extensive backgrounds within the Guatemalan fashion industry. They have also helped ensuring good working conditions.

Environmentally friendly: Because guamayu still produces in small quantities, they couldn't use organic cotton yet. Instead, they use a blend of recycled polyester and regular cotton for the T-shirts, and cotton nylon blend for the socks, since they were left-over from other larger brands. When the brand grows they want to switch to more sustainable materials. The materials are sourced from the USA. 

guamayu also sells prints on paper, these are printed in sustainable print shop in Germany which is cradle-to-cradle, Blauer Engel, and FSC certified

The products are shipped using DHL Go Green, with sustainable wrapping paper, and the reusable packaging from RePack.

Vegan: This brand is completely vegan.

Good cause: They produce in Guatemala to support the economy there, and help with fair jobs. They also donate to a non-profit in Guatemala. 10% of every purchase goes to MAIA, an NPO that empowers Indigenous women in Guatemala through a holistic educational model.
