Brass & sari silk necklace

This handmade necklace is made from brass and silk from a recycled sari. Vintage silk saris are taken apart into colourful silk threads. These threads are braided and woven through the brass chains. The fine brass chains and the brass clasp are hammered by hand.

You can also wear the handmade necklace as a bracelet. If you wrap it three times around your wrist, it looks like this.

The neckclaces are made by hand in Bangladesh by an organisation that creates fair work for women. These women are given the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families in a dignified and fair way. This means the chances of them becoming victims of trafficking (again) decreases greatly.
