About the brand
Brand: CANO is a young shoe brand that stands for sustainable and ethically produced shoes. They combine ancient craftsmanship techniques with innovative production processes to create environmentally-friendly and long-lasting pieces. CANO shows us that we can work on a sustainable future while preserving the wisdom of the past.
Fair Trade: CANO shoes are fairly produced and handmade by local craftsmen in Mexico. The craftsmanships are supported in preserving their traditional techniques and reviving the traditional huarache style with a classic modern shoe.
Environmentally Friendly: CANO shoes are made of vegetable-tanned leather. This is a 200-year-old method that takes 28 days with a 14 step process. They only use vegetable tanning agents, instead of using tanning agents with dangerous chemicals. The leather comes from local farms to give the cows a nice life and to have as few emissions as possible during transport. Furthermore, almost no leather is wasted in the production of the shoes and this is because many small strips of leather are used. Small pieces of leather are unusable with other types of shoes, but with CANO they can make good use of them.
