XANDER is a brand owned by an Indian start up- Merison Impex Private Limited, based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Primarily the idea was conceived to provide a conscious choice to the consumers and to bring eco-friendly, trendy bags & accessories for regular use. That’s why they call it “an earthly desire to possess materialistic wonder”.  

The brand is named after a Dutch philanthropist cum businessman, Mr. Alexander Van Meerwijk- whose name is undeniably related to hundreds of lives that he is transforming through his philanthropic ventures. Likewise, XANDER is based on a bedrock of values, which combines kindness with compassion for those around us, and the humanity that everyone deserves dignity.

Fair trade: The items are handmade in Kolkata, India. The makers work in a studio with pleasant working conditions, and they are paid a fair wage for their work. The artisans work eight hours a day and have at least one day off a week. Also, the artisans are regularly trained with modern techniques of accessories manufacturing.  

Environmentally friendly: The items are made from local produce- 100% eco-friendly, bio-degradable, and azo-free dyed material called processed jute. Jute is a plant-based fibre that is versatile and environmentally friendly. For example, jute requires very little water in the growing process and emits at least four times more oxygen than cotton.

Good cause: XANDER is keen to promote gender equality. It has collaborated with DITO Social Welfare Association (DITO stands for "Drop-In the Ocean") and has taken up multiple programs to support women from the bottom of the pyramid, and thus promising a sustainable life. A part of the profit is donated to DITO Social Welfare Association (www.ditoindia.org) for different programs to uplift and empower rural women. 

Vegan: Most of the XANDER products are completely vegan. Nevertheless, factory-cut-out leather is used for some models. This is clearly stated in each product.
