All our products are handcrafted with care with locally sourced materials, by our fantastic team here in Mzuzu, Malawi, East Africa.
Our brand thrives to protect the environment but also to support the people we work with in an ethical fashion by offering fair and stable employments, health care options, a warm hearty meal everyday and childcare options for mothers.
Our goal is to offer a free plastic waste collection and recycling system in the local community which we work in. We believed the only true way to achieve this was to create a project based on circular economy. This is how the brand was born…! Using a simple method of thermo-sealing, we create recycled plastic sheets from single use plastic packaging. Once they are made, our team of skilled tailors combine the cotton fabrics and the plastic to craft our range of products.
When you live in Africa, or if you have every come to visit, you will recognise the colours all around you. In nature, in the cultures and in the amazing chitenge (the local word for the cotton colourful materials) variety women wear around their waists, across their backs to carry their kids, or on their heads to keep the baskets they are carrying steady. And that is why we work with these materials as well. Our goal? To bring to you the warm heart of Africa through stunning patterns and colours.
Source: Clean & Proud
C&P stands for 'Clean and Proud' and believes in a holistic approach to pollution prevention. They make beautiful eco- accessories with artisans in Malawi.
Fair trade: C&P collaborates with talented makers in Malawi. The employees receive at least a living wage or more. Lunch is organized every day and there is daycare on-site for the children who are not yet attending school. In addition, employees can make use of a pension plan and life insurance from Clean & Proud. Each workplace is furnished and lighted according to the wishes of the employee. The location is safe, has clean sanitary facilities and access to clean drinking water.
Environmentally friendly: C&P mainly works with recycled plastic. C&P collects the plastic for free from the houses in Mzuzu, Malawi. They then recycle it themselves at their workshop, which runs 100% on renewable energy sources. Because Malawi does not have a good infrastructure to collect plastic waste from homes, most residents burn it in their garden. To prevent this, C&P collects the material. In addition to this plastic, the brand works with cotton from Nigeria in African printing and upcycled materials that they buy locally in Mzuzu
Good cause: C&P is a non-profit organization that is fully committed to its employees. They also support partners Malawi Wawi and Root To Fruit, with which they plant a tree in Malawi with every order. In this way, they compensate for the CO2 footprint of the delivery.
