Brand: Veja is a fair and sustainable shoe brand. The word Veja is Brazilian for “look” and the brand looks beyond the shoes, how they are made and from what materials. For Veja, the certification of their sneakers is not the ultimate goal, they would like to go one step further. Veja at the moment is trying its best to reduce its CO2 emissions in the transport, organization, production and consumption of the shoes.

Fair Trade: Veja shoes have always been made in the Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil and their factories and workshops are only a few hours away from Porto Alegre. The product suppliers are audited by SMETA and the audit reports are available on VEJA’s production page.

Environmentally Friendly: Veja pays close attention to what materials they use and where they come from. They only use organic cotton that they buy directly from the farmers to ensure that it is produced fair trade. They also use recycled PET bottles, natural rubber, and Leather Working Group (Gold) certified and chrome-free leather. All their materials are sourced from Brazil, and they keep lists of all their suppliers on their website so that you can easily see where the materials come from and that they were produced ethically.

Good Cause: Veja works with the ASF mission that helps individuals find a job and fight against social exclusions in the working environment. To help motivate the employees they have implemented community activities such as recycling, circular economy and donating recycled materials that gives a strong social and environmental impact.
