A yoga class almost always ends with this greeting, with which the teacher thanks his or her students for their participation. Literally translated from Sanskrit, namasté means “I bow to you.” Usually, the greeting is accompanied by a mudra, a hand gesture in which the palms of the hands are pressed together in front of the chest. With a slight bow of the head, people in India and other Asian countries greet their countrymen and the gods they worship in this way.
