This piece of jewellery is sadly not handmade by ourselves in Vienna and Munich, but manufactured by our supplier in Italy as we sadly need to grow our business a bit more before we can afford the necessary tools to make this ourselves, but we still wanted to bring this design to you.
We name our jewellery after different squid and octopus species to bring awareness to these incredibly smart and fascinating creatures. If you want to learn more about them we whole-heartedly recommend watching 'My friend the octopus'.
Todarodes pacificus is the latin name for the Japanese flying squid. The Japanese flying squid is a fast-swimming squid that can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour). It has a long, slender body and eight arms. Todarodes pacificus is known for its ability to jump out of the water. It can leap up to 6 meters (20 feet) high, which is quite remarkable for a creature that lives its entire life in the ocean.
The squid's jumping ability is believed to serve two main purposes: to escape from predators and to catch prey. When threatened, the squid can jump out of the water to avoid being eaten by sharks, tuna, and other predators. It can also use its fins to propel itself out of the water, allowing it to catch flying fish and other airborne prey.
Our jewellery pieces are delivered in a jewellery box which you can use to keep your jewellery safe or you can reuse it to keep other small objects, like cool stones or seashells from a holiday, tiny love letters, or anything that brings you joy.
We will send you your order wrapped in beautiful vintage art catalogues, posters, or magazines that we collect and recycle. Using resources that are already out there strains our environment less, and also allows us to create unique and individual packaging so every order is it's own experience.
Squïd Studios was founded in 2023 by Anna, Natha and Pia. The brand celebrates sustainability, inclusion and diversity while creating empowering pieces.
Eco-friendly: Squïd embraces a circular philosophy. Even though your items should last a lifetime, they offer repair services and even host free repair & upcycling workshops in Vienna and Munich. Keep an eye out on their events page!
They use recycled Sterling silver, freshwater pearls and deadstock fabrics.
Fair & local production: The brand started with only handmade pieces handmade by the founder team. If you're ordering from Germany, the pieces will be made by Natha, while Anna makes the pieces for the Austrian market. However, they recently increased their range with jewellery made in italy. The clothing is made by Farhan in a small atelier in Vienna.
