Short description
Raise a glass to Alice Ball, the chemist who built up an impressive record in her short life. She was the first woman and first African American to earn a master's degree from the University of Hawaii and teach as a professor. She improved upon the ancient leprosy cure that had previously been inconsistent and painful, saving many lives. After her death, a colleague published her research and findings under his own name, so it was decades before she and her "Ball method" earned a well-deserved place in the history books of science.
