Ethical Clothing Stores in Amsterdam: Shopping Guide by a Local
Looking for sustainable clothing stores in Amsterdam?
Fast fashion high street chains might be easier to spot, and most ethical brands only offer online shopping (in fact, that’s one of the reasons why I co-founded Project Cece: to make it easier for eco-conscious consumers like you to find them).
But as a local, I can promise you: we do have quite a few fairtrade stores too. You just need to know where to look.
So, whether you’ve just moved here, you’re on holiday, or perhaps you’re a local trying to make more sustainable fashion choices: to make things easier for you, I compiled a list of my favourite ethical clothing stores in Amsterdam, from slow fashion brands to vintage gems and much more.
Best ethical clothing brand stores in Amsterdam

MUD Jeans
Torensteeg 3A, 1012 TH, Amsterdam
Unforrunately, most blue jeans aren’t as green as we’d like to think. For example, it takes a whopping 3,800 litres of water to make a single pair.
Luckily, this brand saves an average of 153 million litres a year and reduces waste by promoting circularity.
That’s why, as well as spotlighting their physical clothing store in Amsterdam, we’re proud to feature MUD Jeans on Project Cece, too.
Kings of Indigo
Hartenstraat 15, 1016 BZ Amsterdam
Another ethical fashion store in Amsterdam specialising in denim, but they offer plenty of other garments, too.
You can shop Kings of Indigo online through Project Cece or experience their physical location, including 1:1 styling sessions, repairs, and a free hemming service.
Alohas
Runstraat 21, 1016 GJ Amsterdam
This Spanish shoe brand keeps production local to reduce their environmental footprint and visit their workshops regularly, and they’re also certified by the Leather Working Group.
They have an interesting minimalist store in Amsterdam, or you can shop their entire collection through Project Cece.
Filippa K
Utrechtsestraat 85, 1017 VK and Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat 125, 1071 BS Amsterdam
This Swedish brand—with two separate clothing stores in Amsterdam—started embracing and sharing effortless Scandinavian minimalism all the way back in 1993.
They’re all about mindful consumption and timeless pieces rather than trends, and they prioritise recycled, regenerative, certified, or innovative materials.
MARTAN
Postjesweg 1, 1057 DT Amsterdam
MARTAN is one of Amsterdam’s hottest circular fashion darlings and not just Amsterdam is fond of them; their show during Copenhagen Fashion Week was a big hit.
The brand turns waste textiles from luxury hotels into iconic and surprising outfits. From ready-to-wear to high-end; you can eat your heart out at their Amsterdam showroom or find them at a nice local boutique.
Multi-brand ethical clothing stores in Amsterdam

Het Faire Oosten
Waldenlaan 208, 1093 NH Amsterdam, Netherlands
It’s literally called ‘House of Impact’, and that’s the first clue that this is not your average department store!
Instead of the usual big chains, you’ll only find ethical changemakers (especially sustainable fashion brands in Amsterdam but with lots of other options too, like books, games, food, and drinks).
BrandMission
Haarlemmerstraat 36, 1013 ES Amsterdam, Netherlands
BrandMission started out in 2011 and brings the collection of various ethical brands in one place.
The Amsterdam branch, located down the bustling Haarlemmerstraat, is a must-see.
WhatTheF: Fair Fashion Favourites
Roelof Hartstraat 52 H, 1071 VL Amsterdam
They describe themselves as ‘the feel good fashion store’, and I can totally see why.
As well as being a visual delight, it only includes brands that produce under fair working conditions, including small Dutch workshops.
VegaLife
Nieuwe Hoogstraat 3A, 1011 HC Amsterdam
If the main reason why you’re focusing on ethical fashion stores in Amsterdam is because you’re vegan, look no further.
Here, you’ll find all kinds of beautiful cruelty-free shoes, accessories, and products.
Second-hand and vintage clothing stores in Amsterdam

Vintage of Amsterdam
Nieuwe Hoogstraat 3A, 1011 HC Amsterdam
Well, it’s in the name.
If you’re looking for curated vintage clothing, this store—in a central and picturesque location—won’t disappoint.
Helly
Eerste Jan Steenstraat 81, 1072 NE and Linnaeusstraat 56, 1092 CM Amsterdam
I once scored an iconic pair of pre-loved Chloè trousers here!
This brand offers vintage, second-hand, and a small selection of new clothes, and they spoil us with two charming stores in Amsterdam.
Umé Studio
Haarlemmerdijk 138, 1013 JJ Amsterdam
Here, you’ll find a selection of pre-loved clothing, designer vintage, curated new pieces, and my favourite part: one-of-a-kind upcycled items.
Amsterdam stores to swap and rent clothes

LENA the fashion library
Westerstraat 174, 1015 MP Amsterdam, Netherlands
Wearing something new doesn’t have to mean buying clothes every time!
Renting is a great sustainable option, especially for occasionwear, and while LENA operates online too, its physical clothing store in Amsterdam is guaranteed to offer you a memorable experience.
Our Closet
Haarlemmerdijk 46H, 1013 JD Amsterdam
As well as buying pre-loved clothes, you can rent a rack to give a new life to the ones you no longer wear.
The Swapshop
Haarlemmerdijk 89, 1013 KC Amsterdam and Van Woustraat 52 H, 1073 LM Amsterdam
Thanks to this Netherland-based brand with two separate Amsterdam branches, you can hand in your old clothes and swap them for second-hand pieces you love.
