Best Ethical Netherlands Clothing Brands: Find Your New Faves

You might think I’m biased, since I was born and raised in Amsterdam, but honestly: the Netherlands are such a hub of creativity for fashion designers, including those working hard to make a more positive environmental impact.

The challenge?

They’re not as famous as bigger ones or those based in the UK or more central European countries, let alone your high street fast fashion brands.

So, I want to help them reach more eco-conscious consumers like you.

If you’re looking to support ethical Netherlands clothing brands and find the right garments for your style and budget, start here.

Why support sustainable Netherlands clothing brands?

  • It makes a difference for them – As I teased, most of them are small brands looking to make a big impact, and it’s much harder for indie and/or sustainable companies to be profitable (for example, they have lower budgets and higher margins, they don’t cut costs through sweatshops and cheap but polluting production practices, and they don’t promote overconsumption). So, when you buy from small and ethical Dutch clothing brands, you’re really helping them out!
  • You will be reducing your environmental footprintAnd not ‘just’ because I included Netherlands clothing brands that care about the planet and garment workers: by ordering from local ones, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint (as opposed to, say, having a parcel shipped aaaaaaall the way from Australia)

7 best ethical Netherlands clothing brands

Ready to find your next favourite? Here are some of mine (in no particular order).

1. TEYM - Versatile clothing

With large womenswear and menswear ranges, this Netherlands clothing brand offers a bit of everything while always promoting a slow, mindful approach to fashion: one classic at a time.

So, you’ll find versatile basics and colourful, show-stopping pieces alike.

Also, TEYM produces all its clothes in Europe under fair working conditions.

2. MUD Jeans - Best Netherlands denim brand

While they offer a handful of other garments too… it’s in the name!

It usually takes 3,800 litres of water to make a single pair of jeans. Instead, this Dutch brand saves an average of 153 million litres a year (for example, by choosing recycled and organic cotton), and they also reduce waste by promoting circularity.

3. Kings of Indigo - Jeans and other clothes

This Netherlands clothing brand adds a modern twist to classic designs and Japanese traditions, and while they specialise in jeans, you’ll find plenty of other garments, too.

From a sustainability perspective, Kings of Indigo prioritises organic and recycled materials, uses solar panels for 40-50% of their energy, and guarantees good working conditions.

4. C by Stories - Stylish clothes

Anyone thinking that slow fashion is ugly should check out this Dutch clothing brand!

It stands for Created by Stories because they emphasise the people making their clothes.

At this stage, they aren’t using the most environmentally friendly materials, but I do appreciate the fact that they reduce both waste and emissions by producing locally, in small batches, and with leftover fabrics whenever possible.

5. The Launch - On demand clothing

One of the biggest fast fashion problems? Overconsumption (and the waste it creates).

This ethical Netherlands clothing brand tackles it by launching different collections regularly, that you can pre-order and receive within three weeks.

They also prioritise deadstock materials, kinder fabrics, and those that can be recycled more easily.

6. Hoessee - Yoga and activewear

Tops, leggings, shorts, and more: their small but stunning range is ideal to make you feel like your best self whenever you’re being active.

Their clothes are mostly made in Europe or in Bangladesh through a Fair Wear Foundation factory, and they prioritise kind materials like Econyl (recycled and regenerated nylon) and GOTS-certified cotton.

7. QURC. Amsterdam - Sustainable Netherlands shoe brand

This Dutch brand specialises in sustainable trainers made from cork, one of the most eco-friendly materials and leather substitutes

The entire production takes place in Europe and is vegan (PETA-approved).
