Best Sustainable European Clothing Brands (Next Local Fave!)
Are you moving away from fast fashion, towards a more ethical wardrobe and lifestyle?
First of all: excellent news!
Secondly: if you’re based in Europe, a great first step is to focus on local brands and online stores (I’ll show you why).
So, to make this easier for you, I brought together some of the best sustainable European clothing brands.
Why support sustainable European clothing brands?
- It helps them (and they really need your support!) – Fast fashion stores keep their prices so low by hiding expensive costs (like sweatshops or polluting production practices) and keeping you trapped in a cycle of needing more throwaway clothes to feel fulfilled.
Ethical European fashion brands, on the other hand, produce their clothes while taking care of their workers and the planet (for example, paying fair wages and choosing more expensive but eco-friendly materials and production practices), and they also market them responsibly, encouraging you to think beyond trends and seasons, keeping those items for years.
Unfortunately, this means it’s much harder for them to be profitable and stay in business. So, when you buy from the best sustainable European clothing brands, it makes a big difference! - You will reduce your environmental footprint – On top of choosing ethically made items, you’ll reduce your carbon footprint by ordering from European clothing brands (as opposed to having a parcel shipped all the way from the US, for example)
Now, time to find your next favourite!
Best sustainable European clothing brands
Komodo - versatile and timeless clothes
A true slow fashion pioneer, this UK clothing brand started out all the way back in 1988.
They use organic, natural, and eco-friendly fibres as well as innovative materials, and they maintain close relationships with their workshops.
Komodo offers a wide range of clothes that can easily be repurposed into different outfits.
Baukjen - elevated everyday outfits
The mission of this London-based clothing brand is to empower women and give them confidence in their everyday life.
So, they offer a wide range of both versatile garments (like monochrome and classic cuts) and bolder statement pieces that are bound to turn heads.
Gaâla - luxury European clothing brand
If you’re looking for a premium feel, look no further.
This French fashion brand specialising in luxury womenswear will make you feel like a main character or a Hollywood star on holiday.
They reduce waste by saving leftover deadstock fabric from landfills, and they use innovative materials too, like rose petals and banana fibres (how cool is that?!).
Brava Fabrics - vibrant casual clothes
This B-Corp certified Spanish clothing brand draws inspiration from music, culture, travel, and art.
It’s particularly perfect for casual but show-stopping pieces that you’re going to want to wear everyday, using them to create different colourful outfits.
MUD Jeans - best denim
One of the best Netherlands clothing brands, MUD Jeans is the go-to for ethical denim.
While it usually takes +3,800 litres of water to make a single pair of jeans, they save 153 million litres a year.
They also help you extend the lifespan of your garments by offering repairs and taking back your old ones, so they can reuse or recycle them.
Wellicious - yoga and activewear
This ethical European clothing brand specialises in toxin-free and circular yogawear: their beautiful garments are sustainable and biodegradable, and Wellicious offers a take-back scheme, too.
Best sustainable European accessories brands
Alohas - perfect for trainers (and more)
This Spanish brand offers various types of shoes, but I especially love their trainers.
As well as keeping things local and ethical, they run an in-demand production system to avoid waste, and they prioritise more eco-friendly materials like responsible leather, recycled options, and cactus, corn, and apple leather alternatives.
NAE Vegan - vegan shoes
These shoes are made in Portugal using vegan leather alternatives (like cork, apple, and pineapple leather) and recycled materials.
They offer a wide range, but I think you’re especially going to be obsessed with their trainers and sandals.
Solari Milano - formal vegan shoes
Not only are they a beautiful example of Made in Italy and craftsmanship: these shoes are entirely vegan!
While Solari Milano has a small range of trainers too, it’s the perfect European brand for loafers, boots, and elegant shoes.
Solitude the Label - ethical jewellery
Unfortunately, most jewellery (gold in particular) is bad for the planet due to the mining side of things and worker exploitation, and it frequently involves conflict materials
Instead, this Netherland-based brand offers sustainable jewellery. For example, they often use recycled gold.
Elvis & Kresse - upcycled bags and accessories
Based in the UK, this European fashion brand specialises in luxury accessories made from rescued materials like firehoses, parachutes, and leftover leather.
Perfect to reduce waste and showcase attention-grabbing accessories with a unique story!
