Solios Watches is a brand that makes beautiful solar-powered watches. The brand started a few years ago when two university friends, Samuel and Alexandre, wanted to start a company with a positive impact on the world. This led them to create Solios Watches, a brand that makes no comprises. Every piece is created using the most sustainable materials available, without exploitation, and with timeless and minimalist aestthetics. Solios Watches is a B Corp certified brand with a score of 89.5, meaning that they meet very high standards when it comes to both ethical- and sustainable production.
Fair trade: The end product is assembled in the office of Solios, in Montréal (Canada), where they can easily ensure good working conditions. They have verified all of their suppliers themselves, and visited them on multiple occasions to ensure good working conditions.
Environmentally friendly: Solios Watches has the mission to create the most sustainable watch, while remaining accessible and without sacrificing style. Their watches run on solar energy and have a battery life of 50 years! The solar technology comes from Japan and the watch movement as well. The case is from recycled stainless steel and is assembled in Hong Kong with sapphire coated glass. The dial is currently being developed to be made of a compostable biopolymer (manufactured in Canada), to replace the now plastic dial. For the metal colouration process, they use ionic plating instead of dipping to avoid creating extra chemical waste. The straps are made of vegan leather, which is silicone-based, and free of PU, PVS and other materials that are bad for the environment. They are now working on replacing the filling of the strap with cork, instead of rubber.
Solios also choses the most sustainable packaging material. Made from FSC certified recycled paper, using water-based ink to make sure it is recyclable. Solios is also working on becoming completely carbon-neutral.
Vegan: Yes, the watches are completely vegan.
Good Cause: Solios watches is partnered with Rainforest Trust, who they donate to help them protect the rainforest. The founders of Solios have also been volunteers at Make-A-Wish for years, where they work with children with critical illnesses. They also raise money for this charity.
